Here are three things to keep in mind when burning a candle scented with plant-extracts or essential oils:

1. The Container Top

If the container top isn’t metal, you may not notice the scent as strongly before lighting the candle. Don’t worry—once lit, the warmth will begin to release the aroma.

2. Give It Time

Natural candles take a little time to build up their scent. Allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt to the edges of the container (this is called a full melt pool). Once it does, you’ll begin to enjoy its full fragrance.

3. Adjusting Expectations

If you’re used to fragrance oils, essential oil candles may seem more subtle at first. You can burn more than one candle in a room for a stronger scent, or simply let your nose adjust. Our candles are carefully formulated for safe, gentle scenting and will naturally fill a space—especially for those who are not accustomed to synthetic fragrances.

To get the most out of your candle, trim the wick to 1/8 inch before each use. This prevents excessive flickering, minimizes soot, and helps your candle burn evenly. Additionally, allow your candle to burn long enough for the wax to pool to the edges of the jar during the first burn. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures a clean, even burn throughout the life of the candle.

Allow the Candle to Cool: Always wait for your candle to cool before trimming the wick to avoid any accidents or burns.

Use a Wick Trimmer: A precision wick trimmer is ideal for getting a clean, even cut. It’s designed to trim the wick to the right length—around 1/8 inch—and helps you avoid messy trimming.

Trim to 1/8 Inch: Trim the wick to about 1/8 inch above the wax surface before each burn. This length will promote a clean burn and prevent excess smoke or soot.
